Garth Brooks - Bad Ride Cowboy

Back in 2005 Garth Brooks decided he liked the idea of being able to release a second boxed set of his last albums exclusively with Wal-Mart. It seamed like a great idea give the Box Set to the working class at an inexpensive price. Of course Wal-Mart could provide the outlet to for this.

However, Garth’s record company Capitol Records was not to excited about an exclusive deal sell with Wal-Mart. This would surely upset its other retail outlets. In the end Garth was able to get his music away from Capitol Records and released the Garth Brooks Unlimited on Black Friday.

Re Releasing his albums was not a big deal, many artists do it and Garth himself had done it once before with the Garth Brooks Limited. With that box set 1 never before released song was added to all six albums. This was great, however the only way to get those six songs is through the Limited Box Set. As a Brooks fans both my wife and I bought the album mainly do to not owning a single album on CD (ya, I had some cassette tapes). So we killed two birds with one stone. Following albums were purchased one at a time, the last being Scarecrow. We would own all 11 albums 12 cds if you count the Double Live album. We also own a Garth McDonalds release, but it is just songs from previous albums.

So what does this have to do with making an honest person little choice? In Garth’s latest boxed set he included a Lost Sessions album. The only place to get this CD is through the boxed set and only at Wal-Mart. As somebody who already owns 4 of the 5 albums in the set I am extremely disappointed in Garth’s lack of foresight. No way in the world will I re-buy 4 albums that are already in my collection. So what choice am I left with in this situation?

I guess I could wait for the album to come out as a single, but why should a Garth Brooks fan be forced to wait for him to decide on that. I could easily illegally download it from the Internet, but I may face the wrath of the RIAA. I could always find somebody with a copy and burn it or finally search for it on EBAY! Now granted 25 dollars isn’t much to spend on 5 albums plus on DVD, but there is something to be said about Garth Brooks saying he is doing this for the fans, but in reality he is lining his pockets with more money. I am disappointed for sure. Garth is a great recording Artist and he had good intentions but as far I am concerned all he has done is leave honest people little choice. Bad Ride Cowboy.
