LOS ANGELES — James Doohan (search), the burly chief engineer of the Starship Enterprise in the original "Star (search) Trek" TV series and motion pictures who responded to the command "Beam me up, Scotty," died early Wednesday. He was 85.

This on the heals of Russia putting 10 billion towards a manned mission to Mars. In addition, the 2006 Mission to take pictures of abandoned machinery on the Moon left by earlier Apollo Missions.

It's official: more cellphone lines than landlines in the US

It's not really a competition or anything, but the FCC just released a report confirming that as of late last year the number of cellphone lines in the U.S. officially surpassed the number of landlines.
